Personal hygiene is the process of keeping your body clean to prevent illness and infection. It involves general practices that help keep you clean daily: washing hands, showering regularly, brushing teeth, etc.

Showering Daily

Did you know that most people don’t shower every day? Although most people know that showering every day is important for good hygiene, many people don’t do it. This results in a build-up of body odor, bacteria, and skin oils that can cause problems such as acne, dandruff, and itchy skin.

Taking a daily shower is the best way to prevent these problems and keep your skin, hair, and body clean and healthy. Some people think they don’t have time to take a daily shower, but actually, it only takes 10 minutes on average. If you don’t have time to take a shower, try taking a quick sponge bath to keep clean.

Dental Care

Brushing your teeth is a daily ritual that can prevent tooth decay and gum disease. But did you know that brushing your teeth only cleans about 50% of the surface? The other 50% of the surface gets cleaned by flossing.

Flossing removes bacteria from in between the teeth, which toothpaste can’t reach. When should you start using floss? You can start using it as soon as your teeth start touching each other. If you are still in your teens, you can start with a flossing pen or a water flosser. When you hit your 20s, you can use the traditional method of flossing.

Skipping a day or two of brushing and flossing is not a healthy idea. Bacteria and food particles will remain stuck in your teeth, gums, and mouth. This can lead to cavities, bad breath, inflammation of the gums, and even tooth decay.

Hair and Nail Care

As you grow older, you might notice that your hair and nails are growing slower. This is normal, but you can do certain things to speed up the process. For your hair, you can use a hairbrush or a wide-tooth comb to remove any knots and tangles.

Avoid using hair ties that can lead to breakage and damage to your hair. You can also apply coconut or olive oil to your hair to tame frizz and prevent hair breakage. For your nails, you can apply nail polish to make them look neat and clean. You can also apply moisturizer to hydrate your nails and cuticles. Make sure to use the right tool e.g. a nail clipper when trimming your nails.

Touch-up Makeup Tips

When do you apply makeup? You can apply makeup as soon as you wake up, before your shower, and when you are about to go to bed. These are the three ideal times to apply makeup.

What should you do when you’re in a hurry, and you don’t have enough time to apply a full makeup look? You can start with a primer that evens out your skin tone and reduces the appearance of blemishes. Next, you can apply a light coverage foundation and set it with a setting powder to minimize shine. After applying a swipe of blush on your cheeks, you can finish your makeup look with bronzer, highlighter, and a swipe of mascara.
